Ms. Susan Pastula is an epidemiologist with more than 25 years of experience conducting research in occupational health, environmental health, cancer, nutrition, medical devices and pharmacoepidemiology. Ms. Pastula has worked in various settings, including industry, university, and consulting. She regularly manages and supports systematic and targeted literature reviews and meta-analyses synthesizing scientific literature on various topics, including health effects of asbestos, per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), ethylene oxide, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), trichloroethylene (TCE) and other solvents. She has evaluated cancer risks with consumption of dairy, red meat, and coffee, and adverse outcomes of metal-on-metal hip replacements and inferior vena cava filters. She has conducted studies of community environmental exposures and supported pharmaceutical drug development with real-world evidence and literature synthesis. She has been involved in all aspects of epidemiologic studies, from study design and protocol development to interpreting analytical findings and manuscript writing. Ms. Pastula also routinely evaluates epidemiologic evidence using standard critical appraisal tools.
Ms. Pastula holds a Master of Public Health degree, has published multiple articles in the peer-reviewed literature, including Population Health Management, Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology, Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, PLoS One, Open Forum for Infectious Disease, and the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. She has also presented her work at scientific conferences across research settings such as the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology, ID Week, Pediatric Academic Societies, Monticello Conference, International Society of Environmental Epidemiology, and the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research.
