Objective: To test several combinations of administrative data codes, also known as computable phenotypes, to identify patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFpEF) using an established community-based epidemiologic cohort of patients with validated heart failure (HF).

Conclusions:  Widely available elements in claims data can be utilized to identify patients with HFpEF.  Although prone to some misclassification, computable phenotypes were identified that may be used in commercially available claims databases to gain a deeper understanding of the characteristics of the HFpEF population.
